A Journey Toward a Deeper Relationship With Christ

My story probably isn’t the kind of testimony that involves one dramatic moment when everything suddenly changed. In many ways, my journey with Christ has been much slower than that. Looking back, I think I have believed in God for most of my life. What has changed more recently is my understanding of what it really means to pursue a relationship with Jesus Christ.

I went to church as a kid, was confirmed, and always believed there was a God. Faith was something that was present in my life, but I don’t think I ever really understood that I was supposed to actively pursue a relationship with Christ. It was something I believed in, rather than someone I was consciously trying to know.

In college, I read the Bible from cover to cover. Later, I read through the New Testament again. I learned a great deal from it, and those experiences certainly strengthened my faith, but I still can’t say that everything really clicked for me.

More recently, I decided to read through the New Testament again. This time, something felt different. I found myself understanding the words in a way that I hadn’t before. More importantly, I started thinking about what it actually means to live my life with Christ at the center of it.

Over the past year, I’ve been trying to change how I live. I’m trying to maintain an ongoing dialogue with Christ—to talk to Him throughout the day, bring decisions to Him, listen for His guidance, and live with the awareness that He is present in my life. I’m learning what it means to develop a genuine relationship with Him rather than simply saying that I believe.

A year ago, I was also diagnosed with cancer. Thankfully, my recovery has been going well, and I believe I’m doing well today, although I don’t know with certainty what the future holds. I don’t want to claim that my diagnosis was the reason for my renewed faith, because it wasn’t. The idea for this website actually began several years ago, before my diagnosis, when I tried to build something similar. That first attempt never really gained traction.

But looking back at where I am now, I can see that this has become part of my journey. I felt called to use the abilities God has given me to create a place where other people can share what Christ has done in their lives. I’m a technical person, and I’m not naturally someone who speaks out or stands in front of a crowd. This is one way I feel I can testify in my own way.

One of the things I’ve taken away from reading the New Testament again is that being a Christian isn’t meant to be simply a label we give ourselves. Believing that Jesus is our Lord and Savior is foundational, but our faith should also lead us toward repentance, change, and a desire to live our lives differently. We are all imperfect, and none of us earns salvation through our deeds. But that doesn’t mean our lives shouldn’t reflect the One we say we follow.

I’m still learning. I’m still imperfect. I still have a long way to go. But I am trying to live differently—to make decisions with Christ in mind, to talk with Him throughout my day, to recognize His presence, and to continue growing in my relationship with Him.

That’s part of why I created Testify For Christ.

Thank you for joining this community and taking the time to read my story. I hope you’ll consider sharing yours as well. Your testimony doesn’t have to be dramatic or extraordinary. It may be an answered prayer, a moment of peace, a difficult season you made it through, a quiet realization of God’s presence, or simply the story of how your relationship with Christ has grown.

You never know who may need to hear it.

I pray that you’ll feel compelled to share your story, and that the stories shared here will encourage all of us to seek Christ more deeply and recognize the ways He is working in our lives.
